Eye Examinations
Your eyesight is important to you, and it’s important to us too. Our comprehensive eye examinations are designed to check all aspects of your eye health.
Standard eye exam
Your comprehensive eye exam will include several different tests. We always check your vision to see if your prescription has changed and you require glasses for vision correction glasses. We also carry out tests, including retinal photography to check the health of your eye and look for signs of eye disease such as glaucoma, or general health conditions, such as diabetes. For anyone over 40 years old, we also include a visual field test to check your central and peripheral vision.
During your eye exam, we also take the time to discuss your lifestyle and work needs, and how they might impact your eye health and vision. If you’re a new patient, your exam will take a bit longer as we like to spend time doing an overall assessment that incorporates a detailed picture of your visual and general medical history.
Enhanced eye exam
A more in-depth examination maybe required in certain circumstances. Our enhanced eye exam includes an additional OCT scan. This 3D scan of the different layers at the back of your eye is quick and non-invasive, going under the surface to give us a much more accurate picture of your eye health than traditional retinal photography. The OCT allows our optometrist to detect even the tiniest and earliest signs of diseases that can potentially lead you to lose your sight, such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetes.
Group 1 and Group 2 Driving Licence exams
We offer a visual fields test to check that you meet Eyesight Report requirements for driving. We will also be able to discuss your other occupational requirements if necessary.
Regular eye exams for good eye health
We recommend children have their eyes tested every year, and adults every 2 years. If you have a condition such as glaucoma our optometrists may recommend more frequent exams.
If you have PRSI Optical Benefit or a Medical Card, you may be entitled to free eye exams every two years under these schemes.
